15 Things I Learned From My Mom
Today, March 26, 2020, my mom was supposed to board a plane and come to Izmir, Turkey for a week of quality time, day trips to surrounding villages, trips to Turkish vineyards, and long runs along the Aegean sea. At the end of the week together, we were planning to drive up to Istanbul and run in the Istanbul half-marathon. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened and now we have had to postpone the trip for an unknown amount of time.
For those of you who know my mom, we can all agree that the woman is such a boss. As I type, she is leading and managing a whole team through this coronavirus crisis. I am fortunate to say that my mom is such an incredibly strong woman and I am so jealous of the people who are lead by her. In honor of my mom, my sister and I came up with a list of things our mom has taught us over the years - some silly and some serious.
There’s no such thing as buying too many pairs of the same shoe in different colors.
Work ethic, positivity, and consistency speak volumes.
Feeling down? Working out can immediately improve your mood and wearing orange workout clothes will make you run faster.
Thick slices of cheese taste best when eaten at the kitchen counter.
Intentionally listening to others is the best way to make friends.
If you’re making a phone call to a loved one, and they don’t pick up, ALWAYS leave a voicemail.
We are never too old to learn something new - like sailing or a new language.
No nail polish, no lipstick, no service.
Humming the Rocky theme song while running will set a good pace.
The car is the best place to blast Tiësto because of the amazing acoustics.
The house should always be clean and ready just in case Architectural Digest shows up.
If you don’t know what the tiny alligator symbol means, you can’t be in our FamiLee.
Whether you call it a movie or a tv show or a flick, it’s too long to sit through and watch with undivided attention.
Butter on toast should be applied liberally and without inhibition.
Whether you are at a Turkish wedding or a Country Western Dancehall, Irish step-dancing is totally appropriate.
