M.F.K. Fisher

Prolific writer, lover of food

Her books deal primarily with food, considering it from many aspects: preparation, natural history, culture, and philosophy. Fisher believed that eating well was just one of the "arts of life" and explored the art of living as a secondary theme in her writing.

Making Peace with the Land

By Fred Bahnson and Norman Wirzba

We are alienated not only from one another, but also from the land that sustains us. Our ecosystems are increasingly damaged, and human bodies are likewise degraded. Because human beings are incarnated in material, bodily existence, we are necessarily interdependent with plants and animals, land and sea, heaven and earth.

Stuffed and Starved

By Raj Patel

It’s a perverse fact of modern life: There are more starving people in the world than ever before, while there are also more people who are overweight. To find out how we got to this point and what we can do about it, Raj Patel launched a comprehensive investigation into the global food network. Yet he also found great cause for hope—in international resistance movements working to create a more democratic, sustainable and joyful food system.

Food & Faith in Christian Culture

By Ken Albala and Trudy Eden

Without a uniform dietary code, Christians around the world used food in strikingly different ways, developing widely divergent practices that spread, nurtured, and strengthened their religious beliefs and communities. Featuring never-before published essays, this anthology follows the intersection of food and faith from the fourteenth to the twenty-first century, charting the complex relationship among religious eating habits and politics, culture, and social structure.

The Heart of a Servant Leader

By C. John Miller

These pastoral letters serve as models of compassionate leadership. Jack Miller taught that a Christian leader should be the chief servant, and that right attitudes come only from a heart changed by an encounter with God. Miller leads his reader into a deeper understanding of the gospel and a life of humility, faith, and prayer. Miller gently challenges those called to serve as leaders to find their primary motivation in the glory of God alone.

Newton on the Christian Life

By Tony Reinke

Newton is perhaps the greatest pastoral letter writer in the history of the church. He took up his pen day after day to help others fix their eyes on Christ, which, he writes, is the underlying battle of the Christian life. Through a careful study of scores of letters, Tony Reinke brings together Newton's brilliant vision of the Christian life in one accessible place.

Executive Chef Ana Sortun

Owner of Oleana Restaurant Group

While traveling in Turkey, still deciding on the name for the bakery, Ana would ask the locals what the word “Sofra” meant to them. They were amazed at how the word instantly brought a smile to people’s faces. Insprired by Turkish, Labanese and Greek flovors, her food is inventive yet traditional middle eastern delicacies.

A Meal with Jesus

By Tim Chester

Tim Chester brings to light God’s purposes in the seemingly ordinary act of sharing a meal—how this everyday experience is really an opportunity for grace, community, and mission. Chester challenges contemporary understandings of hospitality as he urges us to evaluate why and who we invite to our table.
